Being vigilant and observant at all times while on duty, is a prerequisite for all police officers to ensure the safety of all citizens and to immediately arrest suspects who fail to abide by the law.
Police members were busy with crime prevention actions in Gugulethu on Wednesday 07 July at about 20:00. As they moved down NY 108, they noticed an unknown man who visibly reacted suspiciously. Acting on their instinct, they approached the man and searched him.
A loaded Taurus .38 special revolver was found in the possession of the suspect. The suspect however could not produce a valid licence to be in possession of such a firearm. A 35-year-old man was arrested and detained.
Once charge, he is expected to make a court appearance in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on a charge of possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition
