Thembalethu police probes robbery of elderly couple

WESTERN CAPE - Thembalethu Serious and Violent Crime Detectives are probing the robbery of an elderly couple at Ballots Heights, Ballots Bay, George on Monday, 06 June 2022 at about 18:45. The investigating team urge the public to come forward with any information which could lead to the arrest of the assailants.

Preliminary investigation reveals that police responded to a call from the elderly couple, a man (64) and a woman (62), who were attacked by intruders at their residence. At least three men allegedly entered the residence and proceeded to the lounge where the occupants were sitting. They forced the elderly woman to the ground and assaulted the man with unknown objects. A shooting ensued before the assailants fled with various items of jewellery.

Both victims were later admitted to hospital for further medical care.

Crime scene experts were deployed to comb the scene for clues. All leads are being followed-up. It is believed that one of the assailants might have sustained injuries during the attack and medical facilities were alerted in this regard.
