Deputy Minister Patekile Holomisa launches an Agriculture Youth Project at Amakhaya, Mkhondo, 22 Jun

The Deputy Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Nkosi Phathekile Holomisa will be launching an agricultural Youth Empowerment Project at Amakhaya Farm in Mkhondo, Mpumalanga, on Wednesday 22 June 2022.

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has facilitated an agreement with the Madabukela Traditional Council to donate land for an agricultural project. The land will assist DCS to enhance its Self-Sufficiency and Sustainability Programme and most importantly, empower a total of twenty-five (25) local youth members who have been identified. The land will also benefit the Amakhaya farm community in general.

The selected young people will be capacitate with agricultural skills required to propel them towards sustainable economic opportunities and contribute towards them becoming successful farmers. DCS boasts many farms across the country in its portfolio. Parolees, inmates and officials working together with the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development will share farming skills with the youth.

Deputy Minister Holomisa is also scheduled to conduct a Working Visit to the Bethal Correctional Facility on 23 June 2022. He will assess the state of infrastructure at the facility, implementation of effective rehabilitation programmes as well as compliance towards COVID-19 regulations.
