Correctional Services hands over relief donations to UMzinyathi community, 21 Jun

Correctional Services extend a helping hand to the flood victims

The Acting National Commissioner of the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), Mr Makgothi Samuel Thobakgale will on Tuesday, 21 June 2022, visit the area of UMzinyathi near Inanda, and handover the much-needed relief donations to the families affected by floods.

Largely, these are non-perishable food items, clothes, blankets and other commodities donated by the officials of DCS and produced by inmates in an effort to assist the flood victims. Over 500 people from Umzinyathi and Port St Johns are to benefit from the available stock.

The White Paper on Corrections recognises the family as the primary level, and the community as the secondary level, at which correction should take place. It is for this reason that Correctional Services is not only addressing rehabilitation from an institutional point of view, but views society as the engine for societal transformation processes.
