Vuwani Police conducted a community outreach campaign to address crime

VUWANI – The South African Police Service in Vuwani led by the Vispol Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mulaudzi Thilivhali Lybon accompanied by the Station Communication Officer, Captain Chipangana Elias visited Tshino Dolidoli village which falls under Chief Nesengani on Saturday 17 September 2022, where the community were addressed about the followings issues:

Burglaries

Carjacking

Domestic violence and gender-based violence

Robbery with firearms

Malicious damage to property

Neighbourhood watch

Stock theft

Cable theft

Missing persons

Community Policing Forum (CPF) Sub-Forum to be elected and workshopped.

The community was urged to form street committees to assist in the fight against crime.

As the programme concluded, community members were given the opportunity to ask questions and were clarified. The numbers of SAPS Vuwani and other police emergency numbers were distributed to the communities.

Accused sentenced for possession of unlicensed firearm

KWAZULU-NATAL – The Ezinqoleni Regional Court convicted and sentenced Sandile Shazi, aged 41, to five years imprisonment or to pay a fine of R20 000.00 for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Shazi was arrested in August last year during a joint operation by Port Shepstone based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Tactical Response Team and Public Order Police at Emahlabathini area in KwaNyuswa.

He appeared in court several times until he was convicted and sentenced.

Shazi was further sentenced to two years imprisonment or to pay a fine of R8000.00 for possession of ammunition.

Three suspects arrested for unlawful possession of firearms

DURBAN – On 16 September 2022 at 13:00, Umbilo police were performing stop and search duties in Bulwer Road when they spotted a vehicle with three men. The vehicle was intercepted and the occupants were searched. They were found in possession of two pistols and 16 rounds of ammunition. A knife was also found in possession of one suspect.

Police proceeded to the suspects’ residence where they recovered a SAPS reflective jacket, masks, number plates and private two way radios. The suspects will be profiled to determine if they were involved in other crimes.

The suspects who are aged between 28 and 34 were arrested for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition as well as possession of a dangerous weapon. They will appear before Durban Magistrate’s Court on 19 September 2022.

Swift police action leads to arrest of burglary suspects

KOMANI – Crime Intelligence members together with K9 Unit and Flying Squad members acted on information about suspected burglars around Komani policing precinct on Saturday, 16 September 2022, at about 21:00.

Members operationalized information and they spotted the vehicle.  A search was conducted leading to the recovery of housebreaking implements and cellphones.

A total of four suspects were arrested in possession of suspected housebreaking implements and all will appear before Komani Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 September 2022.
