Provincial Task Team members arrest armed suspect in Kraaifontein

WESTERN CAPE – The commitment of police officers to clamp down on the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on the streets of the Cape Flats yielded success when yet another suspect was arrested and detained in Kraaifontein.

Members of the Provincial Task Team were busy with patrols in the early hours on Monday 02 May 2022 at around 02:00 in Kraaifontein. Upon entering Gorman Street in Scottsville, they saw an unknown man flee, and the police members gave chase. The 23-year-old man was arrested and detained when he was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition.

Once charged the suspect is expected to make a court appearance in the Blue Downs Magistrate court on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Security officer arrested for car hijacking

GAUTENG – Katlehong Police were early this morning at around 01:00 on their daily routine patrols when they came across a man requesting assistance from the police.

The man was hijacked of his Audi A4 vehicle next to his house at Ramokonopi East. The victim told the police that he was hijacked by four African males, with one pointing him with a pistol and wearing a reflector jacket.

Police took him to the Police Station in order to open a hijacking case.

While on their way to the Police Station, the victim saw the same gunman wailing on the street.

Police quickly stopped and searched the man. A silver pistol was seized from the alleged 38-year-old suspect, who stays at Buyafuthi hostel.

The hijacked victim positively identified him as the one who hijacked him earlier.

Police went on to discover that the firearm is licensed and registered under the suspect’s name, who is employed as a security officer at a company known to the Police

The suspect was arrested and detained at Katlehong Police Station, for alleged hijacking.

The hijacked vehicle with three suspects is sought by police.

The firearm seized will be taken to ballistic test, for further investigation.

Katlehong acting Station Commander Colonel Piet Erasmus applauded a job well done by Katlehong Police members, with the belief that removing a firearm from wrongful hands will minimize violent crimes in Katlehong. Acting Station Commander is appealing to the community to report more illegal guns and those licensed guns which are on the wrongful hands.

The suspect will appear before the Palm Ridge magistrate court soon, charged with car hijacking.

43-year-old arrested with R5 ammunition in Botshabelo

BOTSHABELO – The suspect was arrested after R5 ammunition and magazine were found stashed at his place.

On Monday 02 May 2022 at about 07:30, the Tactical Response team members reacted on intelligence driven information to a house in ‘S’ Section, Botshabelo.

On arrival members found a 43-year-old male who granted police permission to search the house.  While searching, the TRT members found 22 live R5 ammunition including 2 of 9mm, as well as a 9mm magazine.

The 43-year-old male could not account for the ammunition in his possession and was arrested.  Upon continuing the search, members discovered that the suspect is also illegal in the country.  No firearm was found during the search.

The suspect will appear in the Botshabelo Magistrate court soon, for illegal possession of ammunition and contravening the immigration Act.
