The City will be audio live streaming the monthly virtual Council meeting as of tomorrow, 19 August 2021 at 10:00 via the official City of Cape Town YouTube channel. The media and public will now have the opportunity to access and follow the meeting from anywhere in the world. The audio livestream link will be made available to the public via the City’s Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as the City of Cape Town website on the day of the Council meeting each month.

The City of Cape Town Council meeting has always been open to the public in the past but due to the health and safety concerns related to Covid-19 Council had to adapt to virtual meetings. To date, the municipality made provision for the media and public at the Cape Town Civic Centre where the meeting was broadcasted in a boardroom each month. However, space was limited in compliance with Covid-19 regulations.

‘The City has worked hard to create a quality audio live streaming option for the public. In keeping with our principles of being transparent, accessible, and inclusive we are very happy to be able to provide our residents and the media with easy access to the Council meeting in order to keep the public informed and aware of the latest developments in Cape Town,’ said the City of Cape Town Speaker, Alderman Felicity Purchase.

Once the Council meeting has started all members of the public who subscribe to the City of Cape Town YouTube channel will receive a notification that the meeting has gone live.

Alternatively, the link to the meeting will be shared on the City’s online platforms on the day. Recordings of the virtual meeting will also be saved on the YouTube channel for five working days to play back at a later stage or to rewind while following the proceedings.

The council meeting agenda and all other relevant documentation for the meeting are available to the public via the City of Cape Town website at https://www.capetown.gov.za/Family%20and%20home/Meet-the-City/city-council/meeting-calendar/pc-meeting-detail?RecurrenceId=19102.
